What distinguishes women’s western jeans as “women’s western jeans”?
Of course, most of them have the distinctive flare leg and “boot cut,” making them suitable for wearing with your favorite pair of cowgirl boots. Many western jean makers, such as Rocky Mountain Jeans, also provide slim-fit, straight-leg, or “slim” jeans. Then there’s the embellishment on some of them. Some western jeans may be rather opulent.
Flowery motifs, patches and embroidery
They have flowery motifs on the legs below the knee, with patches and embroidery on the rear pockets. Other western jeans are embellished with rhinestones and imitation turquoise in various designs, and others feature peek-a-boo cut-out motifs.
Ultra-low-rise jeans
Western jeans have followed the low-rise trend, with certain manufacturers, such as Cruel Girl, offering “Legacy” ultra-low-rise jeans. Some of them feature button-fly closures. Wrangler, a jean manufacturer for over sixty years, is still big in western wear and is also in style with low-rise and button-fly women’s western jeans.
Denim washes
Western jeans are available in a variety of denim washes, ranging from dark blue denim to faded stonewash and everything in between. Would you rather have robin’s egg blue or electric pink? You’ll find them as well. Going to a big occasion or looking for a more formal jean? What about black? Some western jean makers, such as Lawman’s, are also producing stretch jeans, which are a godsend for most women.
So it appears that western jeans exist in such a wide variety of styles, colors, patterns, and materials that you can get just about any sort of jean you want.
State of mind
What distinguishes western jeans, from my perspective, are the shirt, belt, shoes, and other “accoutrements,” as well as the state of mind that a woman chooses to go with them. When a lady wears pink crocodile Ariat slip-ons or red Justin Caliente boots with her jeans, she is expressing, “These are western jeans.” When she wears a blouse with embroidery and a vintage yoke, she’s saying, “These are western jeans.“
She elevates western jeans by wearing them with a pair of open-toe heels or a pair of tri-color leather platform oxfords, a flimsy mesh tunic, a silk v-neck camisole with spaghetti straps, or a charmeuse wrap top.
